Description
Intensely aromatic cherry, plum with faint anise notes are characteristic of this single vineyard small batch Barbera from the Broke Fordwich side of the Hunter Valley. The palate is rich and juicy and the acid balances beautifully with subtle tannins and generous fruit on the finish.
These vines were planted in 1996 on the fertile alluvial soil on the banks of the Wollombi Brook. They produced glorious wine in their prime, but years of neglect meant that when Max and Bernadette Tolson purchased the property in 2012, there was a lot of work to do. The 2017 vintage is just the second under the new owners and is the result of many many hours of work to nurture the vines back to health. Despite hot weather, the vines performed exceptionally well and produced a stunning wine, one of our best yet.
